Teen Boys Consume Large Amounts of Sugary Drinks

soft_drink_sugaryA recent national survey has found that the amount of sugar that teen boys consume from sodas, energy drinks, sweetened fruit juices and other sugary soft drinks on a daily basis exceeds the government recommendation for all daily sugar consumption by more than 200%.

The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 2005 to 2008 found that sugar-laden drinks accounted for a mean of 273 calories in the daily diet of boys and young men from ages 12-19. Excess sugar in the diet of children and teenagers has been linked to obesity and a variety of future health problems in adulthood. Syfo Seltzer and Naturally Flavored Sparkling Waters are completely free of sugar, sodium, preservatives or artificial sweeteners and are a healthy, refreshing beverage alternative for children, teens and adults.
