Coconut Waters and Electrolytes

Coconut Waters Fall Short on Electrolyte Claims

The consumer group ConsumerLab.com has found that some coconut water brands have fallen short in their claims on the amount of electrolytes in their beverages.

According to an article on Bevnet.com, the brands O.N.E. and Vita Coco fell short on their stated nutritional information for sodium and magnesium, two key elements when it comes to hydration. This is important because coconut water brands have been marketing themselves lately as a healthy beverage perfect for athletes, along the lines of Gatorade or Powerade. Although coconut waters will provide hydration because they are made of mostly water, drinks that contain the appropriate levels for key elements like sodium, potassium and magnesium are the best for replenishing electrolytes.
